Siemens’ SDFA-DTT is an IEC61850 solution that was developed to address the reliability and cost issues experienced by many energy utilities that use either leased telephone lines (from Telekom providers) or Fiber Optic Networks. In a traditional Direct Transfer Trip (DTT) system if the communication link fails, the system disconnects an energy producer from the electrical grid. A communicating DTT system is the simplest and most reliable DTT system type. The SDFA-DTT system overcomes both cost and reliability by leveraging redundant cellular communication paths for DTT applications. The system is cyber secure and provides IoT features to NISTIR 8259A.
