Major improvements to real-time converter simulation

The RTDS® Simulator’s new Universal Converter Model improves the accuracy, flexibility, and accessibility of real-time power electronics simulation. The UCM is not decoupled from the surrounding network, improving numerical stability. It uses resistive switching, yielding cleaner output waveforms and negligible fictitious losses compared to an L/C switching approach. Its Improved Firing input allows the model to accurately represent PWM firing at over 150 kHz when used in the Substep environment. In the Mainstep environment, Improved Firing can accurately represent switching in the 3 kHz range, allowing users with entry-level simulator hardware to run detailed converter simulations.
