new IEEE Fellow – Michael Thompson 

Michael Thompsonhas been elevated to IEEE Fellow “for contributions to standardization and guidelines for modern protection technologies”. He received his B.S., magna cum laude, from Bradley University in 1981 and an M.B.A. from Eastern Illinois University in 1991. 

He has a 40+ year career in power systems engineering. He started at Central Illinois Public Service (now Ameren) where he worked in distribution, substation construction, and relay engineering. He has spent the last 23 years providing consulting services with SEL Engineering Services. 

He is a past Chair of the IEEE Power System Relaying and Control Committee and received the IEEE SA Standards Medalion. He also served the NERC System Protection and Control Working Group as a subject matter expert for many years.
